Independent Medical Evaluations for legal and insurance purposes
Independent Medical Evaluations
An Independent Medical Evaluation (IME) is a private psychological assessment conducted by a Psychologist who is not involved in the client's long-term care. It is typically requested by insurance companies, employers, or legal teams to obtain an objective, unbiased opinion on a specific case. These evaluations are usually used to determine the cause of an injury, the extent of a permanent disability, or whether a client is fit to return to work.
Key Components of an IME
No Doctor-Patient Relationship
The Psychologist performing the IME does not provide treatment or therapy; their sole role is to evaluate and report.
Objective Analysis
The Psychologist reviews medical records, performs psychological tests, and assesses the client's history to answer specific legal or insurance questions.
Report-Based
The final product is a comprehensive written report provided to the requesting party, rather than a treatment plan for the patient.
